Highly recommended.

There is so much in this film to be amazed and awed by: the terrifying, yet strangely beautiful scenes of the dead Templars riding down their victims at night, the vivid contrast between modern people in Seventies fashions with the medieval monks, the incongruity of a beautiful young woman in shorts listening to her radio in the creepy ruins of an ancient monastery. The acting is passable, and I concede that grudgingly. Ossorio was very much a director of moods and visuals rather than a strict, trudging story line that plods from A to B to C and then you're through. My other quibble with the plot: After the disastrous botched rescue attempt and the messy dispatching of the train crew and passengers, wouldn't the authorities roll a bunch of tanks through that castle and destroy everything with fire?

The Final Verdict: Despite the fact that there is only a few selected scenes with the Blind Dead, this is a worthy addition to the Euro Zombie craze that is probably more atmospheric than most of it's contemporaries. It's not predictable and should engage the viewer's attention right up to the climatic ending. External Reviews. Archived from the original on 6 June TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD [as we know it today] stands as one of the watershed films in mixing horror with eroticism: before Ossorio, the erotically tinged horror flick tended to be softer edged, not confront the viewer with TOO much carnage [though torture films were huge during the 's, especially in places like Italy and Germany where film makers were free to make films about whatever they wanted], and tended to end "happily". These films are surprisingly well-realized and eerie , displaying an original premise , some Zombi-like are blinded by crows as they made human sacrifices and were executed , but then the clergymen return eventually to the life. But where do the horses come from? Meanwhile the starring attempts to save the damsel in disgrace and a police inspector Rufino Ingles is investigating the weird deeds. Completely decayed, with few facial features and with their faces covered with tattered hoods with bony fingers and a shuffling way of walking after their victims, it really adds to their terror and makes them that much more creepy. Although the Knights are identifiable by their uniforms, they are never called "Templars" in the film; they are referred to as "Knights from the East". Unfortunately, "Tombs of the Blind Dead" is also a slow, boring, illogical mess.
